Best started around 5 or 6 months, though any dog can learn. First, we establish the dog's drive or what motivates them. Once we have that drive, we can begin training commands like "sit," "down," "stay," and "heel." With consistent training, most dogs can grasp these commands in about 4 to 6 weeks. However, it’s up to you to maintain the training.
If your dog shows fear, anxiety, or aggression, it could be due to various factors, especially in rescue dogs. Dogs process trauma differently than humans, so we shouldn’t treat them as fragile or reactive. Before labeling a dog as aggressive, let's identify the root cause. With meaningful communication, improvements can often be seen within weeks, sometimes even after the first session, though some issues may take longer to resolve
If you're interested in teaching your dog to detect a specific odor, I can help with my 10 years of experience in detection training. Odor training is more complex than it seems, and it requires ongoing maintenance, even during the off-season. We’ll start by introducing your dog to the desired odor. Once they have a solid grasp, I’ll present real-world challenges to teach them search patterns. When you have a good understanding of how to work with your dog, I’ll introduce hidden problems for you both to solve together using what you’ve learned.
If you feel stressed about taking your dog to new places, I’m here to help. I can join you during outings to provide support and guidance. It’s beneficial if I’ve had the chance to meet your dog a couple of times beforehand, as this helps me understand their personality and comfort level. During our time together, I’ll help interpret your dog’s body language and provide advice on the best course of action. Whether it’s navigating new environments, managing interactions with other dogs, or simply ensuring your dog feels secure, my goal is to make the experience as positive as possible for both of you. Together, we can build your confidence and your dog’s comfort in new situations.
If your dog is pulling, you might be using a harness. Try switching to a standard collar. If they still pull, give me a call. If your goal is for your dog to walk nicely beside you, I’m here to help. This can usually be fixed in 1-2 sessions, though it may take longer if your dog is particularly stubborn.
Aggression is unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. Effectively correcting this behavior communicates to your dog that it’s not acceptable. In my experience, there are often underlying factors contributing to aggression that can be addressed. But for safety reasons, I cannot allow aggressive dogs to get out of control; while it may sometimes appear harsh, I assure you I’m trained to gain control without harming the dog.
